Welcome Sweet December!

I titled this post Sweet December because I love all things sweet especially around the holiday time.  I also love baking specifically holiday cookies!  I am going to share with you my favorite holiday cookie recipes, I make a couple of batches every year for gift giving and of course sampling for me.  So let us welcome the holiday spirit with a plate of cookies, milk and ever so joyful holiday music.  Let the baking begin.

My absolute favorite holiday cookie recipe is the Cream Cheese Sugar Cookie.  I either use this recipe for my roll & cut out cookies or I simply use a cookie press.

A cookie press such as this one from Wilton
is much, much fast than rolling out cookies
especially if you are making multiple batches

Holiday Baking Time!

I love this time of year because it gives me an excuse to dust off my Kitchen Aid Mixer and whip up a couple batches of cookies!  I enjoy baking and I especially enjoy baking for other people like family, friends, co-workers and neighbors.  I enjoy grocery shopping for all the baking essentials I could possibly need at this time of year like colorful sprinkles and sanding sugars and don't forget peanutbutter cups and chocolate chips!

Well it's time for me to get cracking those eggs, blending the sugars and butters and pulling out all the baking sheets.  For all of today the kitchen is MINE!!

In the meantime here's a quick craft of sorts I did to spruce up my gift giving cookie containers.  It's rather simple and I'd bet a cookie or two that you already have the supplies needed on hand.  I opened my kitchen cabinet to the wonderful stash of sorts of plastic food containers I had been saving.  You know the kind I am talking about the easy to store food item containers you can purchase in bulk at nearly all grocery, big box, and discount stores.  I gathered the amount of containers needed to package my fresh baked yummy cookies.

I began by creating a template of the top of the lid using cardstock.  I then took the cardstock template, cut it out and used it to trace the exact same shape onto pretty holiday scrapbook paper.  I opted to select an assortment of paper to make each cookie container look holiday festive.

Using double sided tape, glue dots, a dab of hot glue or even good old fashioned school glue...I secured the decorative scrapbook paper to the top of the lid like this:

I made sure to use just a little bit of glue so that the scrapbook paper could easily be removed should the recipient select to use the reuse the container for other things.

Doesn't  this change the appearance of the plastic container completely?  I like how it's starting to turn out.  I say starting to because I couldn't just leave the newly decorated container as it was.  I had to really make it festive after all it's the holidays!  So bust out the curling ribbon and emblishments this girl is going all out with decorations.

Some may say I went overboard decorating a plastic tub, but I beg to differ!  You see, if you step foot into a crafting store at this time of year you will see numerous and I do mean NUMEROUS holiday festive packaging all blinged and glittered out.  And you will also pay a pretty darn price for some of those blinged out items.  So I figure I'd make my own holiday storage containers.  I guess you could call it an Up -Cycled crafting project.  I'm reusing containers I had an excess amount of and turned them into completely new packages.  Plus, once the goodies are eaten the package is empty and can be reused.  And the best part is that I was able to clear out some space in my cabinet!

Happy Holidays, Ebby
