I'm so excited just had to share that I finally received my Teavana Tea order in the mail the other day. I am new to the idea of loose leaf tea drinking, I've never made a cup of loose tea before. I became aware of Teavana Teas one day as I passed the store in the mall. Fabulous tea smells lingered out the doors as I walked by. Of course I had to take a peek inside!
Needless to say I didn't purchase anything from Teavana that day but a few weeks later I found myself websurfing
Teavana.com for teas as well as the
Perfect Tea Maker. I think this tea maker is what sold me on loose leaf teas. I had no idea how to prepare loose leaf teas until I saw this AWESOME contraption and realized how easy making a cup of loose leaf tea can be. The Perfect Tea Maker is available in two sizes 16oz and 32oz and is easy to clean.

Teavana.com offers a wide selection of loose leaf teas.
I have many favorites now! |
So after my Teavana delivery, the very next day I found myself shopping at Target. I was on the hunt for the perfect cup to drink my tea from...well I was also shopping for other items but that intro sounded good. Anyway, after looking at various home / kitchen gadgets I discovered this beauty!

Glass Cafe Mug by Anchor available at Target for $3. |
Ok you are probably thinking wow, a clear cup just use any ol' cup. Well to me having a clear glass mug is part of the tea drinking experience. Besides I will get many uses out of this mug, considering I don't have many mugs in my kitchen cabinet anyways. I plan on using this mug when I make hot cocoa as well as my coffee. Plus, buying this glass mug at Target was way, way, way cheaper than what the tea / coffee stores are selling them for!
Back to the teas I ordered a small sampling of teas (5 flavors). Each bag contains 2oz of flavorful loose leaf tea. I had read somewhere that you can prolong the life of loose leaf tea if you store them properly in airtight containers. So my search was on for airtight containers which led me to the Container Store (my favorite store). With it being the holidays in all I figured I could find those cute little containers some people use for baked goodies. Well, I found some and surprisingly they were not costly at all. These
Seamless Tins are available in 3 sizes and priced just under $2! What a great score because tin canisters sold at tea and coffee stores were at least triple the price.
At this point I have all the items I need to organize my new loose leaf tea collection.
The Seamless Tins are great and can be used for a wide variety of things!

How I store my loose leaf tea

Now, I still enjoy my boxed teas! So I decided to remove the tea bags from the box and store them in different containers. Plus, those bulky tea boxes take up way too much room on the shelf. I had extra food containers on the pantry I wasn't using and decided to repurpose them as tea bag storage. While transfering my favorite boxed teas to their new containers I decided to get a bit creative. I cut the tea box lids off and trimmed them up a bit. I thought it would be a great idea to have the original tea box label so I could identify what tea was inside the new storage container. I had realized that not all tea bags have the string attached with the brand label. So when I removed the tea bags from the box some of the teas looked similar! My solution was to do this:
 |
A couple of my favorite boxed teas. |
 |
Cut the box lid / decorative portion of the tea box off. |
 |
Trim the tea box lid to fit the size of your storage
container lid. I used small sized containers and
had to cut the box lids to fit properly.
|
 |
Using double sided sticky tape, attach the tea box
decorative lid to the underside of your new storage container lid.
Now, you have cute decorative lids! |
Now it's time to clear some shelf space in the cabinet!
 |
Not a very big collection but just right
for my daily cup of tea, coffee or cocoa consumption. |
Take a Break Enjoy a Cup, Ebby
